Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has had a happy and safe New Year's Eve. We saw a really beautiful fireworks show that ended abruptly when the grass caught on fire :( We spread out a sleeping bag in the tennis courts next to my sister's house, and the girls pretended we were camping out. Lots of fun, but cold!

I thought I'd share some of my new year's resolutions, mainly to keep myself accountable :)
1) learn to knit and crochet
2) organize my house and KEEP it organized (this is a biggie!)
3) lose my fear of my sewing machine, especially now that I have one of my own :)
4) finish all of my handmade Christmas gifts before December
5) run/walk at least 4 times a week
6) take my new handy dandy grabber with us on walks to pick up litter :) (I'm excited about this one since I like to pick up trash, but I don't like to touch it)
7) learn to play chess
8) have family movie night and family game night once a week
9) spend more time teaching O (and myself) Spanish

Hmmm. I'm sure I have A LOT more, but that's all that I can think of now. What are your New Year's resolutions?

  1. Wow, you have quite alot resolutions! I gave up to have many cause I usually forget about them very soon ... :-( So this year I will have one - I still can't decide which one. There are a few and I need to prioritize! Still got one day! :-)
But how do you manage to run 4 times a week? I used to go running alot before I had my daughter- there was a time when I did it every day! For me that was a really great stress relief. But now I can't manage to find the time for 2 times a week! It's just impossible. I am hoping that next summer maybe my dauhter will be old enough so I can take her with me on her push bike/ learners bike (not sure what that is called)... but other than that I can't figure out a good way to get exercise. :-/

  3. Good luck at keeping your resolutions! I'm impressed with all your homemade gifts. I've never done homemade gifts until this year (inspired by your blog) and about 1/3 of my gifts were homemade this year. Very fun!!
In regards to teaching Spanish, I want to recommend an online curriculum for kids

The launch date for this site is January 12th, but you can check it out and enter your email, if you are interested. It is my brother's site and we have previewed for him. It is going to be great! I am one who totally limits my kids' screen time, but this one will be totally worth it!! I'm hoping to learn a little, too.

  4. Ulli- I take O with me when I run. I usually have to stop VERY often to gather rocks for her to put in the cup holders, but I do get a little exercise. When we are at home (we are at my mom's now) and the weather is nice, we usually run or walk twice a day. I'm hoping to get back into that tomorrow when we get home :)

Heather- Thanks for the website. I'll definitely check it out!

  5. We have some of the same resolutions!! I'm also wanting to learn to knit, get my house organized, and I have 25 more lbs to lose so I'll be exercising more as well.
Good luck with your resolutions and happy new year.

I would love to learn to knit and crochet, and to run/walk at least 4 times a week, but they only made it to the "maybe" list for this year...I love the idea of taking a trash grabber along on walks!

  10. I have one small suggestion. I would put learning to knit and learning to crochet as two separate goals instead of one main goal. They are different skills, and I'd hate for you to be discouraged. Just a thought. Now I think I'll make some goals of my own.
